I wouldn't bother with Shadow Blade on a Sorcerer. You'll have 18AC with a Shield and Stone's Durability and you'll the have hit point progression of a Cleric or Bard. You'll have to basically dump everything else to get 16 STR or DEX + 16 CON + 16 CHA, but you can do it with half-elf or vuman (probably feating Resilient: Dexterity at level 1 if vuman to be able to get 16/16/16). If you have access to UA, your absolute best bet is Stone Sorcerer - that mostly solves your AC and survivability problems.

Draconic Sorcerer probably handles this the best since at least you get more health and free mage armor, but even then, there's nothing in the Sorcerer class to support being in melee range for longer than you have to. Here's what's up:Įssentially, the problem is that you get murdered by MAD and lack of armor. You can still kind of make it work if you really edge it out, but you'll want to ditch Shadowblade.

There's essentially no use case where monoclass Sorcerer is a better gish than either Paladin 2/Sorcerer X or Hexblade 1/Sorcerer X, and if your goal is to play a monoclass full caster Charisma Gish then you're going to want to play a Bard. Also thunder step is quite fun but very situational. Haste would be great if you had Shadow blade but they are both concentration. I don't love Haste on this build because you're standard attack will just be okay and it's going to eat up concentration. At level 3 your best Gish spell is probably blink. For level two there are four really good choices: blur, Misty step, mirror image and Shadow blade. I'd probably take shield and absorb elements for my level one spells.

Or you can take an elf and use a short sword or half elf with the alternate sxag subraxe that gives weapon proficiencies. Going variant human let's you take weapon master to grab longsword, shortsword, scimitar and rapier. At level 6 you add your Cha to Green flame blade. You'll get the effective hp of a d8 character (if you take average) and essentially free mage armor. One way to do it would be to take draconic sorcerer and take red or gold dragon. A lot of times combat is not lasting more than 5 or 6 rounds so you might just get 3 attacking. A drawkback to a wizard and warlock Gish is you could blow the first two rounds setting up a non con defense and con spell. I think another use draw to quickening attack cantrips is being able to quicken a defensive spell and still use a cantrip.

It is always possible that Pixelpusher is right and it is supposed to mean something like, "This sword is a shadow that will burn the very battleground itself where you were fighting with it," but I like "Shadows Even Burn" because it's punchier.ĮDIT: I just realized that from an English writer's perspective, the word-by-word translation could have been meant to be "burn away even shadows." If this game came out of Japan, at least we'd know if the name was supposed to be nonsense by its untranslatability. I really wish the devs would have gone with something like 影さえ燃やす "Kage sae moyasu" as the name of the sword, since it means "I even burn shadow," which would add an interesting subtext to the sword, giving it an implied shadow pyromania.and personality. "Moyasu sura kage" (Shadow even burns) speaks of burning shadow as a material (like wood), from what I can gather, so the use of nobi there would imply the use of shadow differently. I'm guessing the implication with using nobi is that the demons will burn as crops in a field on fire. Kage=shade sura=even Nobi=burning off the fields. Before we begin, I should point out that Japanese is a second language I am not fluent in yet.Īs near as I can figure, Nobitsura Kage is supposed to mean something like "Shadows Even Burn," given the nature of the sword.
